PM Modi stuck on flyover for 15-20 minutes : Huge security lapse by Punjab govt - MHA
An alarming incident took place in Punjab this morning after the Prime Minister of the country was struck on a flyover for 20 minutes due to a clear security lapse by the state police.
The Prime Minister, who has been stuck on a flyover for about 20 minutes, has returned back to airport. Some of the protesters had stopped blocked the road as there was no adequate security was provided to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by state govt, who was on his Punjab tour.
The Union Home Ministry, which is concerned about the incident, said it was a major security breach.
Due to security concerns, Prime Minister Modi has returned to the airport without participating in the kick-start function of multi-crore projects.
Today morning PM Modi landed at Bathinda. From there he was to go to National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter. But, due to rain and poor visibility, PM waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear out. When the weather didn’t improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Martyrs Memorial via road. He proceeded to travel by road only after necessary confirmation of necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police. Around 30 kms away from National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the PM’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that the road was blocked by some protestors. The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. This was a major lapse in the security of PM, said Ministry of Home affairs.
A picture tweeted by DD News shows other vehicles, including buses, parked in the opposite direction to the main road.
Ministry of Home Affairs says it is taking cognisance of this serious security lapse has sought a detailed report from the state government. State Government has also been asked to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.
